From the Principal
As we approach the end of another academic year, I am filled with gratitude for the many ways our College community has reflected the Good Samaritan Benedictine values that guide us. As I mentioned at our Presentation Day on Wednesday and the Cocurricular Assembly last week, this has been a year of growth, reflection, and collaboration—a journey that reminds us of the wisdom of St Benedict: to seek balance, to listen deeply, and to serve with humility.
Throughout the year, we have seen our students strive for excellence in their studies, their creativity shine in the College Musical and across the Arts, and their teamwork and determination clearly evident on the sports field where we were highly successful across a range of team and individual sports. More importantly, we have witnessed their commitment to service, caring for one another and for the wider community in the many Mission activities, most recently with the hampers for House of Welcome and our work with St Edmund's School, in the spirit of ora et labora—prayer and work.
This Advent Season invites us to pause, to reflect, and to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. The simplicity and humility of His birth call us to live with gratitude and to share His love through kindness, generosity, and compassion. These values align so beautifully with our Benedictine ethos, encouraging us to embrace this holy season.
Again, as I reflected on our Presentation Day, we express gratitude for our students and thank them for their enthusiasm, hard work, and the joy they bring to our school each day. To our families, we are grateful for your trust and partnership in nurturing the growth in learning of your children. And to our staff, your dedication to passionate teaching and living out our Benedictine mission is truly inspiring and one of the many reasons our school is a school of choice for so many families. (Click here to see a gallery of Presentation Day)
As we celebrate Christmas, I encourage you to take time for prayer rest, and for meaningful connection with loved ones. Let us carry forward the light of Christ and the values of St Benedict as we step into the New Year, ready to meet the opportunities and challenges it will bring.
May your homes be filled with peace, joy, and the blessings of this sacred season.
Merry Christmas!

Mission News
On Sunday last week, we moved into the Season of Advent. It is the four-week period where we prepare for the season of Christmas. Advent begins the cycle of the Liturgical Year and focuses on the coming of the Lord. The first weeks offer a vision of the future, looking to the end of time when Christ will come again. The final weeks point more specifically to the birth of Christ. Christ, the promised one, is awaited with joyful expectation. It is a season of preparation, waiting, anticipation and joy.
Over the last few weeks, House of Welcome staff, Homerooms and our staff have worked together to create Christmas Hampers for the clients of our College community partner, the House of Welcome. These hampers were filled with groceries to help families through the Christmas period, as well as what our Mission Team has taken to referring to as “Joy”—those little luxury items that remind us of the joy and warmth of Christmas.
As the hampers came together, it was clear how much effort and care each Homeroom had taken in providing for others. It is quite a feat in logistics to have over 1200 people work together to create Hampers and then deliver them all across Sydney in a three-week timeframe. Many thanks to MSB staff and families, Home Rooms, Religion classes, Mrs Beacroft, and Mrs Marcelo-Jones, for making this possible. This is also a significant piece of work for the House of Welcome. We are very appreciative of being able to work so closely with them.
A big thank you also goes to those who helped with deliveries. The House of Welcome and their clients were thrilled to receive the hampers, and Ruth from the House of Welcome sent through this message on Saturday:
"Please pass on our thanks to your whole school community for this huge undertaking, year after year. It always brings so much joy to our clients, and we truly appreciate the partnership and generosity."
Many of those who delivered hampers sent messages back about how happy the people were to receive their hamper and how fulfilling the experience was. Several families commented on the welcoming smiles of those they delivered to. We encourage you, particularly if you haven’t participated before, to put the date in your calendar at the start of next year and to sign up when the invitation comes out in Term Four. It’s a wonderful way to connect with the community and experience the true meaning of Christmas.
Last Friday, our Year 9 Ministry class had the pleasure of hosting our friends from Year 11 at St Edmund’s School (Eddie's) for a Christmas craft session. What a joyful and creative time we had! The newly renovated classrooms in the MSB Centre, connected by a beautiful external balcony, provided the perfect setting.
Over the course of the day, students from both schools worked together on painting Christmas mugs, creating decorations, and making cards. We shared lunch and ice blocks before our Eddie’s friends had to head back to school. There were several classes who worked together to set up, greet, host and clean up. It was a great opportunity for both schools to enjoy each other’s company. The day was filled with creativity and Christmas spirit, and both schools are already talking about next year!
As has become tradition, our Homerooms got into the Christmas spirit by decorating their doors, and this year we challenged them to capture the true meaning of Christmas in their designs. The results were stunning! From beautifully crafted stained glass windows and nativity scenes to creative depictions of the Christmas story, the doors have truly brightened up our College and kept us focused on the true message of Christmas.
The effort and creativity put into these door displays were remarkable, and after much deliberation, we are proud to announce this year’s winner is MA2. In addition, we’ve awarded prizes for outstanding efforts. Runner up is MC3 and special mention goes to NN6, MA7, AR6, TE5, TE2, SU4 and SU1. Congratulations to everyone for the teamwork, care, and love shown in every decoration.
As part of our Connect Evening last term, our Year 12 students prepared a care pack to go out on the Vinnies Van just before Christmas. On Monday, these went out on the van and were very well received by Vinnie's clients at Mount Druitt and at Parramatta.
On Wednesday, we gathered to draw the year to a close with our Thanksgiving Liturgy. We thank Fr Jim McKeon for Presiding over Mass and for his wonderful homily. It truly was a joyous occasion, and as a Catholic school, a fitting end to the school year. We greatly value our connections with our Parishes and thank them for their support.
At the end of the year, as move into Advent it seems appropriate to reflect on what we have done throughout the year and to thank God for the blessings we have been given that enable us to assist others as we attempt to follow Christ’s command, “To love one another as I have loved you.” I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support this year and for the work we do together as a College.
As a community, we have supported Caritas, House of Welcome, Vinnies and The Good Sams Foundation. We have collected groceries, baked hundreds of muffins, made Care Packs, crocheted/knitted blankets and sold crosses for the artists at Santa Teresa -directly contributing to their income in a way that affirms their dignity and talent. This is just some of the work that students, families and staff have undertaken this year in service to others. Thank you to every family, student and staff member who has made a difference in the lives of others in an authentic and meaningful way.
May Advent give you the opportunity to stop and think about the meaning of Christmas, and may Christmas be filled with peace and joy for all.

Student Access to Microsoft Teams Chat, Social Media and Streaming Services
Student Access to Microsoft Teams Chat, Social Media and Streaming Services
From Thursday 12 December, changes will be made to College networks and College - supplied laptops regarding sites and services that students can access. Students in Years 7 through to 10 will no longer be able to use the direct chat function within Microsoft Teams. This change will not affect the Student learning experience, as it only relates to direct messaging, voice, and video calls within the direct messaging feature on the platform. Collaborative and supervised interaction within College defined Teams and Groups will still be accessible to all students.
Similarly, access to streaming services for the same year groups will be removed, including but not limited to Netflix, Spotify, and others.
Students in all year groups will have greater restrictions placed on social media and networking sites and their access to Zoom Team Chat will also be removed. These changes are in line with our continuous improvement approach across the College systems.
If you have any concerns or questions, please contact The Deputy Principal's office.

With the recent transition from Broken Bay to CGSSSA, the team had limited training leading into the competition. In our first game, we lost 1-4 to a strong Monte Saint Angelo Mercy College side, however the team regrouped and won their next three pool games scoring a total of 14 tries and not letting one in. We came up against our old Broken Bay rivals Stella Maris College Manly in the semi-final and had a strong 4-1 win. We faced Monte Saint Angelo Mercy College again, this time in the final. Monte made the stronger start and led 1-0 early. Both teams traded tries before we drew to a 3-2 lead. With only a few minutes left. Monte scored to level the scores at 3-3 and that’s where the scores ended. Unfortunately, with no extra time, Monte were awarded the win for being the first team to score. Congratulations to all students involved. It was a mammoth effort to make the opens final with a team that included four Year 7 students. Congratulations to the following students who were selected in the CGSSSA Touch Squads for a training camp in Term One next year. We wish you the best of luck in final selections to compete at the NSWCCC carnival in 2025. Opens: Olivia S, Tianna B, and Lucy H. Under 15s: Millie K, Zoe L, Mia S, Amelia B, and Claudia M.

Broken Bay Tennis Championships
Broken Bay Tennis Championships
On a very hot Tuesday 26 November, six students from Years 7, 8 and 9 participated in the Broken Bay Diocese Tennis Championships.
Alana K, Ishita M and Karina L formed the Junior team and Sofia F, Olivia M and Suvarti S formed the Senior team.
Both teams played against girls from Stella Maris College Manly and Mater Maria Catholic College. The Senior team ended up with one win and two losses and finished up third in their pool, and the Junior team were victorious in winning all their matchups and finishing top of their pool.
Many clean shots and serves were made, enabling free flowing rallies over the net to be observed, to the satisfaction of coaches and spectators.
Overall, the girls endured the scorching heat under umbrella cover and frequent food and drink breaks, but were exhausted by the end of the competition.
We gladly welcomed the support of the parents of the girls who also spectated in the warm weather and applauded with encouragement throughout the day.
