    From the Principal

Welcome to your first newsletter of the year from Mount St Benedict College. We want to welcome you to our community as we get to know you better over the next nine months before your daughter officially commences as a student at our College.

This is the first of a number of newsletters you will receive from us this year. We want to keep you informed about upcoming events, give some insight into life as a Bennies girl, and make sure our families have all the important dates and complete the different things you need to do before the end of the year.

I look forward to welcoming your daughter as a Bennies girl in 2026.

    Michael Hanratty

Reflections from a Year 7 Bennies Student

Reflections from a Year 7 Bennies Student

Moving from primary school to secondary school is a significant milestone for students. Some of our Year 7 2024 students shared their reflections on their transition to high school as well as some highlights, challenges and how they grew as learners in their first year at Mount St Benedict College.

    View Mikhaella's reflection.

International Women's Day Celebrations at MSB

International Women's Day Celebrations at MSB

International Women’s Day celebrations commenced with the College’s annual Beyond Bennies Assemblies. Three inspiring alumni joined us to share their experiences since finishing school, what we at the College fondly refer to as ‘beyond the Red Brick Wall’, Sarah Assaf (Class of 2018) a Cyber Security Engineer, Emma Bugarija (Class of 2019) a Speech Pathologist specialising in Auslan and complex needs, and Amie Meehan (Class of 1998) an award-winning Journalist and PR specialist. Our three guests spanned different industries and career stages, and the wide-ranging discussions were engaging and inspiring. They each recognise and are grateful for the education they received at the College. They remember the educators who made a difference, the opportunities that were available to them, and the spirit of community and mutual support they each bring to their careers. The messages to create and embrace opportunities, to back yourself, and to strive to achieve the best outcomes for yourself and for others, will be touchstones for students as they pursue their learning and career goals.

International Women's Day Year 12 Mother and Daughter Breakfast

Year 12 students celebrated International Women’s Day with their mothers and the significant women in their lives at a special breakfast at the College. This is a new tradition at the College and it is already a cherished event.

The UN Women’s theme for 2025 was ‘March Forward’, a theme which resonates with the College ethos and our Good Samaritan legacy. The Class of 2025 are proud to be joining the ranks of women, educated at Mount St Benedict College, whose commitment to social justice, and confidence to succeed in their chosen fields is transforming the future.

    Allwell Testing

    Allwell Testing

The purpose of the Allwell Testing is to provide the College with data about your daughter's skills and abilities in Reading, Comprehension, Spelling, Written Expression, Mathematics and Reasoning. It also provides an effective summary of how our students compare to a broader statewide population.

It is important to understand that the test is not an entrance test. We would like to emphasise that no-one is assessed as passing or failing the test; nor is it seen as a conclusive statement of your daughter's ability.  You will receive a summary of your daughter’s test results early next year.

All students commencing Year 7 will be required to undertake the testing. If for some reason, your daughter is unable to attend, it is most important that you contact the College Registrar, Mrs Narelle McClure as soon as possible on 02 9980 0406 or via email registrar@msb.nsw.edu.au

Year 7 2026 Interviews and Additional Required Documents

Year 7 2026 Interviews and Additional Required Documents

As Mount St Benedict College is not an academically selective high school, the comprehensive information and documentation provided by parents within the Application for Enrolment process, along with results from the Allwell Testing in September 2025, the College has determined that enrolment interviews will not be mandatory for all of our students and their parents entering Year 7 2026.

The College is keen to continue building a comprehensive profile of your daughter as early as possible to best meet her learning needs. We can implement several initiatives for students who show accelerated ability in a particular area and for any student where we might identify that they have missed some key foundation areas of their learning.

For this reason, in addition to the documents you have already provided, we are now asking parents to upload copies of the following documents to your daughter’s student file.

Please upload these documents by Friday 9 May. Please use your email address to log in at https://enquiry.msb.nsw.edu.au/parent/dashboard

Year 5 Semester 1 School Report (upload into School Reports folder)

Year 5 Semester 2 School Report (upload into School Reports folder)

Year 5 NAPLAN results (upload into NAPLAN folder)

Updated health and medical documentation, learning plans and testing information*. It is essential we have this information before your daughter attends onsite events at the College e.g Allwell Testing and Orientation, and for our Wellbeing and Diverse Learning Teams to plan for your daughter starting at the College. (upload into Medical Documents or Additional Assessment folders)

*Lead times for assessment and testing appointments with external healthcare providers can be lengthy, so you may wish to start this process now.

Please note: The school reports, NAPLAN results and additional documents must be uploaded via the above parent dashboard link.  Please do not email directly to the Registrar for security and privacy reasons.

    Instructions for uploading:

After you log in, you will see on the top right-hand side of your Parent Dashboard an Outstanding Tasks heading, underneath will be a pink box titled ‘click here to upload documents'. Please be assured that all documents and information previously provided has been retained

If there are any aspects of your daughter’s learning involving her current school work habits, any learning plans in place at Primary School, external testing results, medical history or overall wellbeing which you may wish to discuss individually, you are encouraged to contact the Registrar on 9980 0406 or registrar@msb.nsw.edu.au so that a personal meeting can be arranged with the most relevant College staff.

We look forward to working closely with our new parents to ensure a smooth transition for your daughter’s secondary education.
